UCMAS Abacus education has always been misunderstood as a mathematic education. But the real fact is that we only use numbers as a medium to enhance the children’s left and right brain’s development. That is why UCMAS Abacus students have very strong calculation ability and this leads to the misunderstandings as mentioned above.

ABACUS

Aadesh is a Nepali student from UCMAS Abacus that has represented UCMAS Abacus to many countries for demonstration. He was able to impress the people there by solving many digit and rows calculation within a minute. How can he do it so fast? This is because human’s brain is divided into 2 parts, the left and right brain. The left brain’s functions are numbers, language and analyzing. Where as, the right brain’s functions are colors, pictures, music and creativeness. So now, may I know which hand does your child uses to write? Usually children use the right hand to write.

This is because the left brain is stronger than the right brain and vice versa. During Aadesh’s calculation process, the numbers that he sees will be captured by his left brain. And it will automatically be transferred to the right brain into the image of abacus. This will enable the right brain to do the mental calculation by visualizing the pictures of the beads and finally it will be transferred back to the left brain in order to be converted back to numbers. This whole process is just like watching a plane flying in cartoons.

The plane’s flying motion consists of compilation and compression of many pictures. In conjunction to that, when the children are processing the calculation in the brain while transferring from left to right and right to left, this is just like continuously processing pictures. UCMAS Abacus education’s aim is not train the children to become a super calculator. Just like Aadesh who can solve the many digits and row calculation problem immediately.

This course’s main aim is to train the children’s ability in a few areas which have been made into an acronym – COMIC JARS
COMIC JARS
CONCENTRATION
Since UCMAS is a brain development program with emphasis on speed, children who undergo this program get trained to concentrate on what their Course Instructors train them in the class. A second of lost concentration will get them a wrong answer and hence they form the habit of concentrating on either number spoken out to them or the flashing of cards done by their instructors.
OBSERVATION
UCMAS is a unique program that builds the observation power within a child. The use of Flash Cards will ensure the built up of observation. Since the emphasis is on fast image recognition and accuracy, the brain becomes like a scanner, which scans the surroundings and follows the eye movements thus increasing the observation power within a child.
MEMORY
Identify, retain, and recall is basically Memory. In UCMAS program, children are required to manipulate beads thus creating images, which are retained in the brain. When speedy calculation is required to be done, when either numbers are spoken out or cards are flashed, the child has to quickly identify the image, and recall the corresponding number that has been retained in the brain. This process makes memory sharp and stays with the child throughout his/ her life.
IMAGINATION
For proper imagination, it is required to have well-developed visualization ability and for this it is required to trigger both sides of the brain, specially the right side of the brain which is the visual brain. Abacus is a tool that uses both hand operations which in turn helps trigger the right brain cells. Add to this, the quick mental calculation that a child needs to do in the program.
CREATIVITY
Creativity stems from a well-developed right brain. In the UCMAS program, most of the calculations and finger movements are done by the left hand, which is controlled by the right side of the brain. So more left hand movements more will be the development of the right side of the brain. Creativity also needs good imagination skills that have already been enhanced by this program.
JUDGMENT
Judgment requires a balanced brain. To be a good judge, one requires appreciating both sides of the issue. To understand and appreciate perspectives, context as well as study the logical part of the story. To analyze one’s vision and perspective you require a strong right brain whereas to understand logic and analyze the situation, one requires a strong left-brain. UCMAS helps develops both sides of the brain, thus ensuring a good sense of judgment within a child.
APPLICATION
Application is the art of understanding a situation or a context and then applying all your wisdom and knowledge to give a better meaning to the situation. A good memory, good judgment and a well-balanced brain will help a child enhance his/ her application skills. UCMAS program enhances all these required skills.
REASONING
To reason about anything or with anyone, you require a well-balanced, logical and analytical brain. UCMAS creates a well-developed brain by training both sides of the brain using abacus, tools like flash cards and techniques like jumbled writing, speed writing, etc.
SELF CONFIDENCE
A child’s self-confidence becomes very high when he stands out in the class or when people recognize his or her unique capabilities. With exceptionally strong memory, powerful focus and concentration power and with enhanced arithmetical skills with high accuracy and speed, a child’s confidence is sure to get a real boost.

Parents are concerned about their children’s future; they will try their best to provide their children with the best education. But their ability to absorb is very limited. For instance, if we keep on filling water into a cup, it will spill out.
Sometimes, parents do not fill water only, they even compress it. Finally, when the cup cannot take it anymore, it will crack. In this case, when children cannot take it anymore, they will go to the extreme of either very good or very bad. For example, they will become either very quiet or does not like to mix with people or being very bad tempered and like to release it on other people. All these are caused by stress. UCMAS Abacus brain education is to enlarge the cup. From the cup, we will transform it to a pond and from the pond; it will be transformed to a sea.

WHY UCMAS AT A YOUNG AGE?

Children catch up things fastest at the age of 4-13 years old. Therefore, this is the best time for UCMAS Abacus brain development process. After the age of 13, the brain is almost fully developed. Therefore, it is harder to enhance the brain after the age of 13. Childhood only comes once in a lifetime. Do not let your children miss this opportunity because there.

OUR GLOBAL
GROWTH

Established in Malaysia in 1993, UCMAS Abacus has grown into a global program present in over 83 countries, including Nepal. In Nepal, it has been well-received for its effectiveness in improving mathematical abilities and general cognitive skills among children. UCMAS Nepal is headquartered in Kalimati and is recognized for its structured curriculum and positive impact on young learners.

The program not only boosts arithmetic skills but also fosters a range of cognitive benefits, making it a valuable educational tool in the modern era.
